Customizing Your Review Emails
Every email your store sends about reviews — asking for one, following up, thanking a customer, or notifying them of a reply — can be customized to match your brand. This guide covers every email type, what you can change, and how the automatic sending works.
The email types
Purpose | Customizable? | |
|---|---|---|
Review request | Sent to a customer after their order, asking them to leave a review | ✅ Fully — layout, colors, logo, copy, blocks |
Past-order review request | A one-time batch email to customers who ordered before you installed the app | ✅ Subject, heading, body, button text |
Reply notification | Lets a customer know you replied to their review | ✅ Heading, body, button text |
Review submitted confirmation | Sent after a review is created, letting the customer confirm/dispute authorship | ✅ Heading, body, button text |
Review reward email | Sends a discount code after a customer leaves a review | Sent automatically; not template-customizable |
Review edit notification | Tells a customer their review was edited or reverted | Fixed system template, not customizable |
You'll find all of these under Settings → Email Templates, where each opens its own editor.
What you can customize
Depending on the email, you can adjust:
Logo and brand/accent color
Layout — for review request emails, choose from four ready-made designs (Minimal, Branded, Product-Focused, Compact), or build a fully custom layout from blocks (header, text, image, product, button, divider, footer) on paid plans
Subject line (past-order email only — other emails use a fixed or auto-generated subject)
Heading, body copy, and button text
Footer text
Every editor includes a live preview (with a desktop/mobile toggle) so you can see exactly how the email will look, filled in with sample data, before you save. There's currently no "send me a test email" button — the preview is the way to check your design before it goes live.
Changes are saved as a draft first; nothing goes out to customers until you click Publish/Save. A Reset to default option is available if you want to start over.
Personalizing with variables
You can drop placeholder tags into your subject line and body text, and they'll be automatically replaced with the real customer/order details when the email sends:
Variable | Replaced with |
|---|---|
| Customer's full name |
| Customer's first name |
| Customer's last name |
| Order number |
| Number of items in the order |
| Number of days since the order |
| Product name |
| Link to the product page |
| Your store's name |
| Your store's URL |
Use the variable picker in the editor to insert these without typing them by hand — it's easy to add extra spaces or a typo if you write them manually, and the app is tolerant of small formatting differences but not of misspelled variable names.
Who the emails come from
The sender name and address are generated automatically from your store's name — you don't set this manually. If your account is configured to send from a dedicated per-store subdomain, that address is fixed and can't be changed from the editor.
When emails actually get sent
Review request emails are sent automatically based on rules you set for each channel:
Trigger point — either when the order is created or when it's fulfilled.
Delay — how many days to wait after that trigger before sending the first request.
Follow-up (reminder) — an optional second email sent a set number of days after the first, if the customer hasn't left a review yet.
Automated sending on a schedule is available on the Premium plan. You can also send review requests manually at any time from Settings → Request Review, or send a one-time batch to customers who ordered before you installed the app from Settings → Schedule Previous Orders.
Reply notifications and review submitted confirmations are sent automatically when the corresponding event happens (you reply to a review, or a review is created) — you can turn each of these on or off independently in their settings.
Review reward emails send automatically right after a customer's review is approved, if you have a review-reward discount configured.
Sending limits by plan
Plan | Manual review request emails | Automated scheduled emails | Past-order batch emails |
|---|---|---|---|
Free | 1/month | Not available | Limited allowance |
Pro | 10/month | Not available | Higher allowance |
Growth | Unlimited | Not available | Higher allowance |
Premium | Unlimited | ✅ Available | Highest allowance |
If you go over your past-order batch allowance, additional emails can be purchased as credits.
The custom block-based email builder (fully custom layouts) is available on paid plans; the four ready-made layouts are available more broadly, but customizing template copy/branding requires a paid plan.
Good to know
Draft changes don't affect live emails until published — safe to experiment.
Automated scheduling (delay days, follow-ups) is a Premium feature; on other plans, sending is manual.
There's no built-in test-send — rely on the live preview panel to check your design and variable placement before publishing.
